2025 Year-End Review: From Market Uncertainty to New Opportunities
As 2025 draws to a close, we would like to take a moment to reflect on another year of change, opportunity, and continued growth.
For businesses operating in Japan, 2025 has been a year characterized by several major structural shifts. Japan’s inbound tourism market reached unprecedented levels, while rising prices, labor costs, and changing consumer behavior continued to reshape the business environment. At the same time, the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence and digital technologies has accelerated the pace at which companies are reconsidering how they operate, serve customers, and create value.
Against this backdrop, our consulting practice has continued to support clients across a broad range of business challenges: from market entry and business development to talent acquisition, career advisory, operational planning, and cross-border expansion.
A Changing Business Environment
One of the most notable developments in 2025 has been the continued strength of inbound demand. Japan welcomed a record 42.7 million international visitors during 2025, while inbound tourism expenditure reached approximately ¥9.5 trillion, highlighting the significant commercial opportunities created by international demand for Japanese products, services, and experiences. At the same time, businesses have had to navigate a more challenging cost environment. Japan’s service-sector prices continued to rise, with corporate service prices increasing by 2.7% year-on-year in August 2025, reflecting, among other factors, higher labor costs and strong demand in sectors such as hospitality. These developments reinforce an important lesson for businesses: growth opportunities and operational challenges increasingly need to be addressed simultaneously.
Our Role as a Strategic Partner
Throughout the year, we have continued to work with entrepreneurs, SMEs, and established companies to translate business ideas into practical strategies.
Our engagements have included:
Market Entry & Business Expansion — supporting companies exploring new markets, particularly opportunities involving Japan and international expansion.
Business Development Advisory — identifying new revenue opportunities, potential partners, and routes to market.
Talent & Recruitment Advisory — supporting organizations with recruitment strategy, RPO, and critical talent acquisition.
Career Consulting — helping professionals evaluate career options and make informed decisions regarding their next steps.
Strategic Planning & Roadmap Development — helping management teams establish priorities, objectives, and actionable implementation plans.
Research & Due Diligence — providing market intelligence and supplier research before clients commit significant resources to a new business initiative.
Cross-Border Support — assisting clients with the practical challenges of operating between Japan and international markets.
From Research to Execution
One area that has become increasingly important in our work is the transition from research and strategy to actual execution.
A market study or feasibility assessment can provide valuable information, but the real challenge often begins afterwards: identifying the right partners, contacting suppliers, establishing commercial relationships, managing logistics, recruiting the necessary people, and putting the strategy into practice.
For this reason, we increasingly position ourselves not only as a provider of advisory services, but as a hands-on business partner capable of supporting clients throughout different stages of their journey.
Whether a client is considering launching a new business, entering Japan, expanding internationally, improving its organization, or exploring a new commercial opportunity, our objective is to provide practical support that moves the project forward.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we enter 2026, we expect the business environment to remain dynamic.
The continued international interest in Japan, the evolution of AI and digital business models, changing labor-market dynamics, and the increasing importance of sustainability and supply-chain resilience are creating both opportunities and new challenges for companies.
Our focus will remain unchanged: helping our clients identify opportunities, make informed decisions, and turn strategy into action.
We would like to thank all of our clients, business partners, colleagues, friends, and supporters who have been part of our journey throughout 2025.
We look forward to continuing to build new partnerships, take on new challenges, and support our clients as they pursue their ambitions in Japan and beyond.
Thank you for being part of our journey, and we look forward to what 2026 will bring!
